Jeremiah

  • Jeremiah 36:11-19
    • 605 BC: 15 years before the destruction of Jerusalem
    • The Scroll which Baruch wrote
  • Jeremiah 36: 20-26
    • December of 605 or 604 BC
    • The Kind destroyed the Scroll by fire and commanded Baruch and Jeremiah to be arrested.
    • Elnathan = “God has given”, Dalaiah = “Jehovah has drawn”, Gemariah = “Jehovah has accomplished”
  • Jeremiah 36: 27-32
    • A second copy of the scroll is commissioned, by YHWH.
    • Add to the scroll, Jehoiakim King of Judah will have NO descendant  on the throne.
    • The prophecy fulfilled in 597 BC
  • Jeremiah 37:1-2
    • Zedekiah, puppet ruler of Jerusalem set up by Nebuchadnezzar
    • Ignores the guidance of YHWH.
  • Jeremiah 37: 3-10
    • Zedekiah won’t go but sends messengers to request Jeremiah to pray for Judah.
      • Chapter 34: Prophecy Zedekiah was going to go down.
      • Egypt will turn back and Babylon WILL capture Jerusalem
    • Tolerance and open-mindedness, aligned with Communist China, Radical Islam
  • Jeremiah 37: 11-15
    • Jeremiah on his way to purchase property, in the land of Benjamin. Just to the north of Jerusalem.
    • Jeremiah arrested by Irijah at the Gate of Benjamin. “You are trying to defect!”
      • Jailed in the house of Jonathan the scribe.
  • Jeremiah 37: 16-21
    • Vaulted Cell: Chanuwth : cell, vaulted room, only used once in scripture.
    • King Zedekiah sent a petition: “Have you heard from YHWH?”
      • Yep: you WILL be handed to the King of Babylon!
      • Jeremiah requests/pleads to NOT be sent back to the house of Jonathan the scribe
        • afraid to go back there and die.
      • Zedekiah does consent and Jeremiah is sent to the court of the guardhouse.
